Hi friends i would like to comment about the article that i have posted below which i extracted from the BBC website. This article was written by one of the tourist who visited UK and was apparently shocked to see people in UK smoking. This is because the tourist is from Melbourne, Australia and smoking there was banned 5 years ago.This is something new for me as i did not know that there is a country which has banned smoking. People there can only smoke in clubs and pubs. This is something really good and i wish we could actually bring up that rules in Malaysia. As smoking only causes negative effects for the rest of the people who inhales it. It is just that i do not see any good or positive effects by smoking...what do you blogger think about this article?Please write in your comments!!!

Most probably, in my opinion, we should not TOTALLY ban smoking in Malaysia. The goverment could atleast allow smoking in clubs and bars and restrict smoking in public places.
Banning smoking in Malaysia is not a good idea because it will affect people (employees) in their everyday work.

Yes, of course, smoking is hazardous to health but cigarettes industry play a great role in boosting up the economy of the country. But in my opinion, smoking should not be banned totally.

I think it is good to have those rules where smokers only can smoke in the clubs or pubs because it can reduce the negative affects which maybe harmful to one’s health! Maybe we cannot ban the tobacco industry in Malaysia economy, but I would like to have such rules where people only can smoke in a specific area.
Actually, I’m a person who dislikes smoke and smoking. But there are people around me that smoke. This would make me difficult to breathe as I was diagnosed of smoke allergy at every young age. Because of this I’m less endurance when running or playing sports. Smoking is one of the worst things no matter for kids or for adults can do to their bodies. Yet every single day, it is nearly 4,400 kids between the ages 12 and 17 starts smoking. Why? There's more than just one simple answer. Some kids may start smoking just because they're curious. Others may like the idea of doing something dangerous - something grown-ups don't want them to do. Still others might have grown up around lots of people who smoke and they might think it's the way to act like an adult.
You've probably heard that smoking and tobacco use can cause cancer and heart disease. That's true, but sometimes kids can't really think that far into the future to worry about an illness they might not get for 20 years. So let's talk about the problems that might affect kids more quickly:
• bad breath
• yellow teeth
• smelly clothes
• more colds and coughs
• difficulty keeping up with friends when playing sports
• Empty wallet - cigarettes and tobacco products are very expensive!
hey i don't think its good idea to ban smoking in our country.i'm saying this because three quater of our population consist of smoker's, either chain or occasional smoker.. And not forgetting that our country revenue is being generated by the taxes imposes on those cigarrates.
As smoking has both positive as well as negative effects towards the public as well as to the country's economy.I too agree that every country has their own legislation and restriction on the tobacco which every individual must follow within the country.finally i feel that smoking is an individual preference and the rules need to be formulated analysing the overall scope.
i agree with Natalie that goverment should not totally ban smoking,but only restrict it in public places.But haven't Malaysia already done it?It is not allowed to smoke in all shoping malls and even some other public places,isnt that enough?The smokers do not distrub other people that much(mostly they smoke outside)and tobacco industry helps the economy of the country,so that is why i think goverment should not ban smoking in Malaysia
Should smoking be banned in public places?
Yes, as a matter of concerning health of not only the smokers but especially the non-smokers.
Although there is the right of freedom to choose to not to smoke, this choice is effectively taken away once smoking in public takes place. This results forcing non-smokers in such vicinity to smoke too.
While smoking does harm to one's lungs in the long-term, the most detrimental effects are passive smoking which can also cause lung cancer as well.
Such bans would not only improve society's health but would also encourage those causing the problem to help themselves as well.
However, from a macro-business perspective enforcing of such bans would result in harming the tobacco industry as a whole. Many who are employed would lose their jobs and tobacco farms would close down.
In some instances, tobacco is a key commoditee in some countries that contributes revenue to the economic growth.
Likewise, if there was a complete ban on smoking in public places, would it affect smokers to be socially outcasts?
Whether there is support for this ban or not, the crux of the matter is that, can there be freedom of choice for both smokers and non-smokers alike?
It's good that the Australian Government has taken the initiative to ban smoking in public areas as of course this helps reduce more second-hand smoking for non-smokers.. Well instead of totally stopping the production of tobacco products, most country impose a very high price on their cigarette sales. This in hand helps more people to gradually reduce or slowly eliminate their smoking habit..you've got an excellent collection of blogs there..well done and keep up the good work and hope to hear more from you soon..
Banning smoking in Malaysia wouldn't be a good thing IMO.
